Two works by Antony Tudor that have not been seen for decades will be featured in Signatures 10. NYTB is the first company to present Trio Con Brio since it was created by Antony Tudor as an “experimental work” at Jacob’s Pillow in 1952. The dance, which is newly reconstructed, remained unknown until 16 mm footage was discovered by Norton Owen, Director of Preservation at Jacob’s Pillow, in 2008. Another early Tudor work, Soiree Musicale, has been seldom performed since it premiered in 1938 for a Cecchetti Society matinée at London’s Palladium Theatre. It is danced to a suite of Rossini melodies arranged by Benjamin Britten.

The company also performs Frederick Ashton’s fanciful Capriol Suite. Based on a collection of period dances from the 16th century, it premiered in London in 1930 and was an immediate sensation. Mazurkas – a tribute to the heroic spirit of the Polish people choreographed by José Limón in 1958 – is an energetic sequence of dances set to music by Frederic Chopin.
