Ballet School NY was founded by artistic director Diana Byer in 1978 as the official training school of New York Theatre Ballet. The School teaches dance as a total art form, developing strong technical skill and discipline…fluidity and ease of movement…and a strong sense of theater, style, musicality, and expression. It is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the great ballet mistress Margaret Craske. She was certified by Enrico Cecchetti and served as director of instruction at BSNY for many years until her retirement in 1987.
BSNY’s Adult Division offers advanced training for professional ballet dancers, supplemental basic and intermediate technique for ballet and modern dancers, and beginning and intermediate technique for non-professional adults. Classes follow a Cecchetti syllabus and are scheduled around regular business hours. In the Children’s Division, graded classes are offered at the pre-ballet through advanced levels. Qualified teaching assistants guarantee highly individualized instruction.
All classes are taught to the highest standard by a faculty of top professionals, including Diana Byer, prestigious guest instructors, and senior members of New York Theatre Ballet. For qualified students, the School’s unique relationship with New York Theatre Ballet provides performing experience throughout the year in ballets featuring roles for children.
CLASSES ARE GIVEN CONTINUOUSLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED FOR ALL NATIONAL HOLIDAYS. BALLET SCHOOL NY IS AUTHORIZED UNDER FEDERAL LAW TO ENROLL NON-IMMIGRANT ALIEN STUDENTS.
Classes will not be canceled due to weather.
