Dear Friend of New York Theatre Ballet,

“A discreet little pearl in the oyster of New York dance” is how noted dance critic Jennifer Dunning (The New York Times) described New York Theatre Ballet. As we celebrate the successes of the past 30 years, we look ahead to the future as NYTB fills its niche as the city’s premier chamber ballet company. We continue to strengthen our organization so that our company, school, and our award-winning outreach programs can thrive. Now more than ever…we need your help as we embark on the following exciting initiatives.

New Work

We continue to seek out creative collaborations with young choreographers, designers, and composers to keep the artistry of New York Theatre Ballet fresh and challenging for our audiences. With each new season and each new work, the cost of mounting our productions – new costumes, set pieces, lighting designs, music, and promotion – creates an enormous strain on our already stretched bottom line.  In memory of Sallie Wilson, our beloved teacher and coach for 22 years who recently passed away, we are initiating a special fund to support new projects. 

Production Manager

Our creative team of choreographers, teachers, and designers has always been our greatest asset. Within the past few years, we have added an executive director, general manager, and music director to our staff; and recently brought on The Brad Simon Organization, Inc. to handle our tour bookings. As our touring and performance opportunities expand, we hope to hire a production manager to round out our NYTB family.

Studio/Office Space

With over 20 classes being taught per week plus company rehearsals and a very active office, we are bursting at the seams in our current location on East 31st Street. We are looking for a larger studio and office space. The challenge of locating, renovating, and leasing an appropriate space in Manhattan is daunting, and we ask for whatever help you can provide.   

And that’s not all

Stay tuned for details about our benefit gala this fall, plus the announcement of our full performance season consisting of new ballets, authentic revivals, expanded touring, and the return of our family series.  All this PLUS the dance classes available through our school, Ballet School NY, and our award-winning outreach initiative LIFT Community Service Program, where we provide dance, education, and performances for children and parents living in the City’s homeless shelters.

It is only with your help that we will be able to survive the next 30 years as we continue to ignite a passion for dance, music, art and theatre in the hearts and minds of dance lovers in New York and across the country.
