Associate Artistic Director
Elena Zahlmann is Principal Dancer and Associate Artistic Director of New York Theatre Ballet. Before joining NYTB in 2000, she trained at the Princeton Ballet School in New Jersey, and had prior training in the R.A.D. Syllabus. Zahlmann is featured in leading roles in ballets by Agnes de Mille, José Límon, and Antony Tudor among others, and has worked with numerous contemporary choreographers, originating characters in many new ballets. She has appeared with NYTB and The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, featured in tributes to Rogers & Hammerstein and Lerner & Lowe, and their holiday concerts including How The Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Holiday Follies, and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, assisting choreographer Liza Gennaro. Zahlmann is the stager and répétiteur of A Charlie Brown Christmas for the San Francisco Symphony. She has danced soloist roles from Oklahoma! and The King & I in regional theaters. Zahlmann is a guest artist with David Parker’s The Bang Group, recently performing in the Dance Now Festival at Joe’s Pub. She is frequently involved in the staging of ballets by Antony Tudor and Agnes de Mille, assisting both Diana Byer and Gemze DeLappe. Zahlmann is on faculty at Ballet School NY, the official training academy of New York Theatre Ballet.
